Unpaid Carers in Dumfries and Galloway

We met Cheryl at the Scottish Manual Handling Forum Conference in Feb 2024 where she delivered an inspiring presentation on the impact of delivering Manual Handling Training for unpaid carers. Cheryl is the Deputy Manager and Unpaid Carer Lead at The Care Training and Consultancy CIC. After a quick video call it was clear we had alignment and so she offered us a stand and a chance to present a workshop at the Dumfries and Galloway Unpaid Carers Conference in October 2024 (where our home screen photo was taken!) We had a great day with lots of lovely feedback and so Cheryl and I set about the next steps with a 2 day programme of sessions for unpaid carers and staff at their glorious base in Dumfries.

The 2 day workshop was glorious. We had lots of emotional moments as people opened up about their experiences around sleep and we explored their optimal sleep position within practical sessions. We learned a lot about the difficulties carers face, and how we need to adapt our approach to realistically reach this group of superheroes.
